ASU lands three-star corner

Three-star defensive back Travis Smith (6-0, 160, 4.5) from Los Angeles (Calif.) Jefferson, considered one of the best cornerbacks in the Los Angeles City Section, has made his decision on what school he will attend.
It ends up being a case of the early bird catches the worm as Smith has decided to play for the school that tendered him his first offer way in the spring, the Sun Devils of Arizona State.

"I am talking to ASU defensive back Mark Carrior right now," Jefferson head coach Doi Johnson said. "Travis did indeed commit to Arizona State."
ASU wins the services of Smith over other offers from Washington, Washington State, Utah, Hawai'i and Colorado.
"Travis felt comfortable with Arizona State throughout the recruiting process," Johnson said. "The Sun Devils get a young man that you are proud to know and are glad that he represents your program.
Former Long Beach (Calif.) Poly, USC and Chicago Bear star Mark Carrior handled Smith's recruitment for ASU.
"I think Travis is the best corner in city ball bar none," Jefferson coach Doi Johnson said. "He has such phenomenal cover skills."
"Travis also has the size and speed you love in a lockdown cover corner," Johnson said. "Plus he's extremely smart."
Smith had seven interceptions and numerous pass breakups as a senior.
Even better news for ASU fans is he is already qualified.
Good get for ASU.
