It was just over two months ago Chicago (Ill.) Gordon Tech defensive end Raequan Williams picked up his first offer. That number has now jumped to 11 with Arizona State being the most recent addition.
The offer from Arizona State came through for Williams in the last week after a phone call with their coaches.
"I talked with Coach Jackie [Shipp]," Williams said. "They said they saw a lot of potential and could develop me into a great player. They were saying I have the potential to help them win a national championship. They were very positive."
The offer from Arizona State holds particular interest for Williams because of his connection to the state.
"I have family in Arizona," he said. "I visited there during our New Year's break hanging with family. They have a lot of interest for me because I would be close to family."
Williams estimated his offer total at 11. Penn State is another school he has heard was offering, and he plans to discuss that with them soon.
"Coach Ricky [Rahne] wanted me to call him tonight and talk to him," Williams said. "I know they are a very strong [tradition] place."
Additional offers have come from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Boston College, Akron, Bowling Green, Toledo and Western Michigan. Deciding which school to attend, though, is well off in the future for Williams.
"I haven't visited anywhere yet," Williams said. "I will probably [decide] after my senior season, around Signing Day."
The 6-foot-6, 280-pound Williams is rated three stars and ranked as the No. 23 strongside defensive end in the country.
