Will Georgia land a five-star prospect in this class, or will Mark Richt's perceived hot-seat status hurt the Bulldogs' chances?
Which school will have the best recruiting class in the state of Florida?
What are Michigan and Notre Dame's chances with some of their top targets?
Pitt's class is currently ranked among the nation's top 15, can they stay there?
These questions and more are addressed by National Recruiting Analyst Mike Farrell in this week's mailbag.
Scared away from UGA?
With Mark Richt supposedly on the hot seat, can you see Georgia landing any five-star prospect this year?
- Drew from Destin, FL
As far as current five stars, I don't see that happening but they are in the mix for players who could end up as five stars when all is said and done, depending on how their senior seasons go and how they do against the best in all-star games.
Despite the struggles on the field and the coaching rumors, Georgia still has a good shot at landing running back Isaiah Crowell, defensive end Ray Drew and cornerback Marcus Roberson who are all in striking range of five-star status.
Michigan's chances
Mike, what's the latest with Demetrius Hart and Kris Frost. Is Michigan still in the lead for these two?
- Randy from Roseville, IL
I think Michigan leads for Hart and is the team to beat but Auburn is going to charge hard for him and Alabama could jump in at anytime as well, they just haven't been recruiting him that hard.
As for Frost, I've always thought Auburn was the team to beat because of his relationship with Tommy Thigpen with Michigan second. It's interesting that the Wolverines are going head-to-head with Auburn for two major recruits.
OSU lock?
Where does Doran Grant end up?
- Brandon from Columbus, OH
Unless something crazy happens, I see Grant at Ohio State. I know he has great ties to Michigan State and the Spartans are off to a good start, but OSU has a strong lead from what I hear and I don't see them giving it up.
Irish in the mix
Hey Mike, I was wondering what you think the chances are Notre Dame could land Wayne Lyons, Ishaq Williams or Savon Huggins?
- George from Forty Fort, PA
I think the best shot Notre Dame has out of those three is with Williams who has the Irish in his top three with Alabama and Penn State. I hear PSU is the team to beat for many reasons, but this will come down to official visits. He loved his visit to Notre Dame so if they can get him on campus for an official, they could pull him away.
Lyons I hear is a strong lean to Florida with Stanford having the best shot at stealing him away and Huggins is a heavy lean to Rutgers according to good sources.
Sunshine State's best class?
Who will have the best recruiting class in the state of Florida?
- Cody from Orlando, FL
Florida State has the edge right now, ever so slightly over Florida followed by Miami which is very far behind. I'm going to say Florida State finishes on top this year because they are in good shape for some major prospects and are having a great recruiting year.
It will be close and betting against Florida is always foolish, but FSU is killing it out there this year. I think Miami will finish strong and end up in the top 15 or so, but FSU and Florida are set for top 10 classes.
Class of the Big East
Do you think that Pitt will remain in the top 15 after signing day?
- J.T. in Pittsburgh, PA
Unless they pull some big surprises like landing Cyrus Kouandjio, Savon Huggins and a few others, I think Pitt can finish in the top 25 but will fall out of the top 15.
Right now the Panthers are No. 13 with 18 commits and schools like Nebraska, Auburn, USC and others are very likely to pass them. That being said, they should run away with the Big East this year, they have had a great recruiting year so far. However, last night's loss to Miami at home on national television won't help them close down the stretch.
They need to rebound and have a big in-conference year and win the Big East.
What's left for OU?
With my Sooners' shortage of scholarships available, which players do you see them picking up as their final commitments?
- Chance in Sand Springs, OK
Sooner fans have to feel good about where they stand with defensive back Charles Jackson, and a couple of late in-state offers may go out to Daniel Davis and Jamelle Naff to fill holes at middle linebacker and along the offensive line.
OU would also like to land another wideout with LaDarius Brown and DeAnthony Arnett leading the way but neither are likely gets.
Quentin Gardener might be another player to keep an eye on for a late offer.
Aggie outlook
Texas A&M has lost out to Texas for Cedric Reed and Malcolm Brown, do you think they will land any legit four or five star players this year?
- Trey from El Paso, TX
A&M has a good shot at landing LaDarius Brown as it seems it will come down to the Aggies and TCU but gut feeling is TCU leads.
They are also battling Ole Miss for defensive back Floyd Raven and battling everyone for cornerback Marcus Roberson as well. They are also in it for Charles Jackson but I think he ends up at Oklahoma.
To be honest, it's not going to be a very strong recruiting year for A&M. They have 12 commitments now with none being four star kids and they will likely be shut out of Texas for four stars and trail for Brown, Raven, Roberson and Jackson. Maybe a couple of JUCO four stars for them, but things aren't looking great.
Longhorns lurking
What are the chances Aaron Green commits to Texas over the other teams in the hunt? Is Jermauria Rasco a lock for LSU or is Texas really in the hunt?
- Xavier from Austin, TX
I still have to think Green ends up at Nebraska and nothing will really change my mind about that unless he is blown away by an official visit from someplace else. His FSU visit went well but I don't see that happening and Cal has other running backs they covet more.
Texas is the real threat, if they really want him and fight for him it will be interesting. He and Malcolm Brown are tight and it's close to home, but playing with his brother at Nebraska and his familiarity of that program gives them a big edge.
As for Rasco, I hear Texas leads even from LSU sources so the Longhorns are certainly in the hunt.
