Ohio State has had a lot of great recruiting classes in Rivals history dating back to 2002 and a lot of outstanding players that went on to great careers in the NFL.

MORE: Can Demas, Johnson over take Fleming as No. 1 WR?

One thing the Buckeyes have never had is the top-rated wide receiver in a recruiting class - until now as five-star Julian Fleming from Catawissa (Pa.) Southern Columbia picked the Buckeyes over Penn State, Alabama, Clemson and others this past weekend.

If Fleming sticks with Ohio State and he ends up No. 1 in the position rankings for the 2020 class, it would be the first time the Buckeyes had that high of a receiver in one of their classes.

So how does Fleming compare with other No. 1 players at receiver over the years, some of whom have had excellent careers and others who have definitely not lived up to expectations?

FARRELL'S TAKE

We ask Rivals.com National Recruiting Director Mike Farrell for his thoughts on Fleming and where he compares with other top-rated receivers through the years, especially in recent recruiting cycles.

"Fleming is a talented kid for sure but we're still not sure he is No. 1 in this class as we have three rankings cycles left to determine that. However, I've said it before and I'll say it again -- he reminds me of N'Keal Harry which is high praise. Harry ended up as a first-rounder in this past draft and had a great college career. I like Harry a little better at the same stage and like Jadon Haselwood and Amon-Ra St. Brown and Calvin Ridley a bit better as well, but I think Fleming is better than guys like Donovan Peoples-Jones, Laquon Treadwell, Travis Rudolph and some others dating back in history.

"Fleming is a big kid, very fluid and can beat you downfield or work the intermediate passing game and I think he has a chance to be a first-rounder down the line. He's impressive and could surpass Harry with another season."
