Ashley getting early attention

Schools are taking notice of Justin (Texas) Northwest running back Drew Ashley, who is a two-time all-district selection and has rushed for close to 3,000 yards in the last two seasons.
Ashley, who earned all-state honorable mention honors as just a sophomore, had a big time coming up out party. His sophomore season included 1,655 yards and 23 touchdowns. Though he was hampered by an ankle sprain throughout much of the 2006 season, he still managed to carry the ball for 1,184 yards and 12 scores.

Now, recruiting has officially begun.
"I've been getting text messages and all kinds of mail," Ashley said. "I get stuff from Ole Miss, LSU, Oklahoma State, Kansas, and Notre Dame. I just haven't been able to go anywhere because of track."
Ashley is contemplating his first junior day visit this weekend to North Texas or TCU. He says it's way too early for him to have a favorite.
"I haven't really had a chance to talk one-on-one with any of the coaches to know where I stand," Ashley said. "It's really about who I feel comfortable with and who I fit in with."
This summer he says he plans to hit the road for an unofficial visit to several schools around the country including Notre Dame, Virginia, Florida, LSU, and Oklahoma State.
As for the off-season, he's working hard to have a big season in 2007.
"I think I'm more of an all-purpose back," Ashley said. "I'm not that big, but I'm still strong and I can catch out of the backfield. I'm kind of quick as well."
Ashley says he hasn't received his first scholarship offer as of yet from any school.
