Army Bowl: Ranking the QBs

SAN ANTONIO – Army All-American Bowl week is over after the West team edged out the East team 17-16 in the game. The group of quarterbacks was very impressive from start to finish as they tried to carry on the tradition from last year’s quarterback group that featured players like Jake Fromm, Tua Tagovailoa, Hunter Johnson and a few others.

Here is a breakdown and ranking of how each quarterback played this week.

1. TREVOR LAWRENCE

Lawrence has been the top-ranked player in the Rivals100 from day one and, despite a shaky performance in the game, he was still the best quarterback at the Army All-American Bowl. During the week, Lawrence lit up the defense with great throws all over the field. The Clemson signee was exceptionally accurate on his deep passes during the week and he tried to carry that over to the game but the West defensive backs made it tough on him. Lawrence found his rhythm late in the game and led a late touchdown drive.

2. JT DANIELS

Despite being a late addition to the game this year, Daniels was almost stride for stride with Lawrence this week. He isn’t as big as Lawrence but there isn’t a noticeable difference in their arm strength and both are extremely accurate. Daniels, a USC commit, had a pretty good game and threw some really nice passes, especially one deep pass to Jaylen Waddle. Throughout the week Daniels’ connection with current and future teammate Amon-Ra St. Brown was obvious and defensive backs had a very hard time slowly them down.

3. MATT CORRAL

Corral did a great job for most of the week and his arm was probably strongest out of all the quarterbacks in the game. He had a short touchdown pass to Jaylen Waddle in the game and did a good job throughout the week of finding open receivers on short and intermediate routes. Corral, an Ole Miss signee, has started to put more touch on his passes and his development is noticeable. He fired some passes into tight windows all week and he was consistently accurate. Ole Miss fans should be excited about everything Corral brings to the table.

4. JARREN WILLIAMS

Miami is getting an athletic quarterback in Williams that seems to take care of the football and gives his playmakers a chance to gain yards after the catch. He needs to work on his accuracy a bit but he’s able to improvise when he isn’t able to find the open receiver. Williams was pretty consistent throughout the week and in the game he completed half of his passes. He did take two sacks but still showed the ability on other plays to evade the rush and gained a few yards on the ground.

5. TANNER MCKEE

McKee was a bit overshadowed during the week of practice but was still solid. The California product is headed on a two-year mission so he hasn’t made a college decision just yet but he would be a good addition for almost any team right now. McKee’s delivery needs some work but he is an accurate passer with decent arm strength and he quickly developed a report with the receivers on the West team. McKee was underwhelming in the game, only completing two passes but he did throw a 38-yard completion to Amon-Ra St. Brown.

6. PHIL JURKOVEC

During the week Jurkovec was hovering around third or fourth on this list but the Notre Dame signee's performance in the game started off badly and didn’t get any better. On his first series Jurkovec slipped when he tried to evade the rush and took a big sack on consecutive plays. Later in the game Jurkovec threw to a wide-open receiver down the sideline but the ball hung in the air and it was intercepted. He didn’t complete a pass in the game which was surprising after the week he was putting together. In the practices Jurkovec was one of the more accurate quarterbacks on either team and was completing passes all over the field.
