Army Bowl offers future Texas kicker

The U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Tour is in its final week as it makes its way across the country to honor 90 of the top high school football players. The tour has made numerous stops in every region to extend official invitations to play in the 2012 contest.
On Monday afternoon in a news conference at his school Coppell (Texas) kicker Nick Jordan became the latest official addition to the U.S. Army All-American team.
"It's a great honor," Jordan, 6-foot-1 and 175 pounds, said. "Obviously there were a lot of players they could have considered for it so it means a lot that I was selected. It's nice being selected and it shows that my hard work has paid off.
"I was excited when I first found out about it. I figured it was going to be a lot of fun. The presentation today with the hat and jersey and everything got me hyped up for it even more. It's going to be exciting."
Jordan is not the first prospect from Coppell to be selected to participate in the game.
"We had Emmanuel Moody play in it a few years back," he said. "I have to play for my school to represent Coppell. I think it's an honor not just for me but my teammates as well. It's a chance to show what we can do at Coppell."
Despite the game being played in his home state, it is still quite a drive from Coppell to San Antonio. Because of that Jordan has several family members that have never had a chance to see him in action. He is excited to see that change come January.
"My family lives down there in the area so it will be nice to have them come to the game and be able to see me play," he said. "It's going to be a big game for them to see me in. That's really cool. That's what I'm most looking forward to."
Jordan, a Texas commitment, has yet to take his official visit to Austin. Because he has not done so he has not had the opportunity to get to know many of his fellow Longhorn pledges. With the likes of Kendall Sanders, Timothy Cole and Hassan Ridgeway also playing in the Army game, he will have a chance to bond with his future teammates.

"I don't really know anybody that well yet," he said. "I'm looking forward to meeting a bunch of guys down there. The kicker for the other team, I've seen him around at camps but I don't really know him personally. There are some other Texas commits in the game I'm looking forward to meeting. I haven't had a chance to meet a lot of the guys in my class just yet."
After the game officially caps his high school career, Jordan is excited to suit up for Texas. He knows he will be following in the footsteps of Justin Tucker, who recently cemented his legacy in Austin by delivering the game-winning kick as time expired against Texas A&M.
"When he hit that kick against A&M it was huge," Jordan said of Tucker. "I know there is going to be a lot of pressure to live up to his accomplishments, especially after that winning kick. He's a great kicker and the team relied on him. I feel like I can come in there and do my best to take over for him and I think I'll be able to fill his shoes."
Tucker and the West team take on the East in the 12th annual U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The game will be nationally televised on NBC.
