SAN ANTONIO — Thursday was the last significant practice for the Army All-American Bowl before the game on Saturday. A few of the usual suspects stood out but there were some new faces that made their presence felt.

Isaac Nauta
Isaac Nauta

1. TE Isaac Nauta, Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy

Recruiting wrap: Nauta will choose among Georgia, Michigan and Alabama when he commits on Saturday during the Army game.

Performance: Nauta made a lot of plays on Thursday as a blocker and a receiver. He had a couple of really nice catches but at one point he made a catch on a crossing pattern and ran over the safety to score a touchdown. Nauta also made a nice one-handed catch near the sideline a few plays prior to that. He made a big difference in the running game, turning defensive ends back inside to spring the running back free.

2. LB Carter Coughlin, Eden Prairie, Minn.

Recruiting Wrap: Coughlin is a solid commit to Minnesota.

Performance: Coughlin has been a pleasant surprise in the East linebacker corps this week. Ranked as the No. 116 player in the class we expected Coughlin to be good, but he has been the unquestioned leader of the East linebackers and was named a team captain. On Thursday the 6-foot-4, 220-pounder again showed great range in coverage and recorded a pass break-up in goal line team work.

Malek Young

3. CB Malek Young, Coconut Creek, Fla.

Recruiting Wrap: Young de-committed from Georgia after Mark Richt was let go. He may end up following Richt to Miami.

Performance: The East coaches have the 5-foot-9, 173-pound Young lined up in the nickel, which puts him in position to be responsible for screen passes to the wide receivers. Young showed great awareness and a tremendous break on the football to stop several of those screens behind the line of scrimmage Thursday. He also showed he could stay with the speedy Mecole Hardman downfield.

Dexter Lawrence

4. DT Dexter Lawrence, Wake Forest, N.C.

Recruiting wrap: Lawrence is committed to Clemson.

Performance: It has been a dominant week of practice for Lawrence and it was more of the same on Thursday. He consistently overpowered offensive linemen and made plays in the backfield. Lawrence stopped a lot of runs up the middle but also chased quarterbacks out of the pocket, forcing poor throws.

5. OT Michael Jordan, Canton (Mich.) Plymouth

Recruiting Wrap: Jordan is committed to Ohio State and will enroll next week.

Performance: Jordan missed much of Monday’s practice and all of Tuesday’s practice with an injury, but made a much-needed return Thursday for a shallow East offensive line group. The 6-foot-6, 300-pound Jordan lined up at right tackle and displayed a powerful initial punch. The one knock on Jordan is he will get caught not moving his feet, but he has exceptionally long arms and is still able to get the outside speed rush.

DeMario McCall

6. ATH DeMario McCall, North Ridgeville, Ohio

Recruiting wrap: McCall is committed to Ohio State.

Performance: McCall has been quiet during the week of practice but he had his best day on Thursday. His explosiveness and burst were very noticeable when he broke off a couple of nice runs. McCall is very shifty and it helped him find open holes and break toward the open field. He is a big play waiting to happen and could explode in the game on Saturday.

Nigel Warrior

7. DB Nigel Warrior, Suwanee (Ga.) Peachtree Ridge

Recruiting Wrap: Warrior has a top four of Alabama, Georgia, LSU and Tennessee. He plans to make his decision on National Signing Day.

Performance: The 5-foot-11, 189-pound Warrior is ranked as the No. 7 safety in the 2016 class, but he made his presence felt at the cornerback position during Thursday’s practice. Warrior showed great speed by staying with the East’s fastest receiver, Mecole Hardman, down the field and breaking up a pass. He was also excellent in run support where he was seen stringing running backs out to the sideline.

STOCK DOWN

Binjimen Victor
Binjimen Victor ()

1. WR Binjimen Victor, Coconut Creek, Fla.

Recruiting wrap: Ohio State and Florida seem like the leaders for Victor.

Performance: Victor has all the tools to be a major threat at the college level but there are a few things he needs to work on. This week his hands have been inconsistent and his ability to come up with the big play has been absent. Victor’s catch radius is huge and he does a good job getting open but his drops in the open field are disappointing.

2. WR Cameron Chambers, Sicklerville (N.J.) Timber Creek

Recruiting Wrap: Chambers has been committed to Michigan State since the summer before his junior season.

Performance: Different receivers on both squads have had issues with their hands this week, and on Thursday it was Chambers’ turn. The 6-foot-2, 201-pound wideout had a couple of particularly bad drops, including one that occurred in the end zone during goal line work. Midway through practice Chambers received some tips from NFL Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe on his release from the line.

3. DT Antwuan Jackson, Ellenwood (Ga.) Cedar Grove

Recruiting wrap: Jackson is committed to Auburn.

Performance: Jackson brings toughness to the interior of the defense but he does consistently make plays. He blew up a running play in the backfield and then disappeared for the next five to 10 plays. Jackson needs to give consistent effort and chase plays down to be considered one of the nation’s best.
