SAN ANTONIO – The Early Signing Period came and went for Rivals100 Baton Rouge (La.) Scotlandville defensive back Kelvin "Fat" Joseph without much fanfare. Joseph had long planned to wait until the traditional National Signing Day to make his final decision. But despite not feeling any pressure from his finalists – LSU, Alabama, Auburn and Florida State – Joseph said he might change his plans and commit during Saturday's broadcast of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

"I've been thinking about it just to get everything over with," Joseph said. "They talked to me about doing it on TV but we haven't really finalized anything yet."

Joseph said regardless of whether he announces a decision on Saturday, he's still planning on taking at least three official visits, with LSU (Jan. 20), Alabama (Jan. 26) and Auburn (Feb. 2.) already set.

"I'm still going to take all my trips no matter what," Joseph said. "That was one of the reasons I wasn't worried about signing early."

Joseph was committed to the Tigers for the better part of his recruitment, and conventional wisdom says that's where he'll end up again. On Monday he admitted that he's still feeling a strong pull to stay close to home.

"We still have a good relationship and I know everything I need to know about the program," Joseph said. "I just want to see how everything is going to play out and I de-committed to take a look at my options so that's what I'm trying to do."

While Joseph has alway seemed bound to play in Death Valley, Alabama has long worked to get him on campus for visits and remain in the picture. The Tide were quickly considered a contender when Joseph re-opened his recruitment and he said they remain firmly in the mix.

"They have a need for defensive backs," Joseph said. "They are losing a lot in their secondary and they need guys to come in and play. There's an opening for me to come in and work hard and have a chance to play."

Auburn is hoping to pull off a late coup and steal Joseph away from a pair of SEC rivals, but in order to do so the Tigers will have to make quite the impression during his official visit next month.

"They have the same thing, a need in the secondary for guys to come in," Joseph said. "They like my versatility and said that they could see me playing corner or safety."
