SAN ANTONIO - Most of the players selected to participate in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl game arrived today and checked into the Grand Hyatt Hotel on East Market Street. The following are the players that will leave you slack-jawed as they walk off the bus.
U.S. Army All-American All-Lobby Team Hot 11
6-8/290, West Des Moines (Iowa) Valley
He is easily the tallest competitor at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl coming in at around 6 feet 7 1/2 and weighing near 290 pounds. This long-armed offensive tackle has the frame to easily add 20 more pounds, and still have the appearance of being thin. Barrent may need to add more upper body strength and mass.
6-5/315, Detroit Cass Tech
Campbell still possesses the impressive 315 pounds on a 6-foot-5 frame that he had last year at this time at the U.S. Army All American Combine. He is a barrel-chested lineman whose upper and lower body is already in perfect symmetry. Not only does he look like a player that can bench press over 400 pounds but one that can be stuck right into the two-deep at whatever school he chooses.
OT D.J. Fluker
6-7/345, Foley (Ala.) High
The only way to describe this 6-foot-6 1/2, 345-pound lineman is that his shadow would cast an eclipse over his entire hometown. When he shakes the average person's hand his fingertips reach all the way to the elbow. This mobile behemoth has very little body fat and looks physically ready for the NFL Draft right now.
OT Chris Faulk
6-6/315, Slidell (La.) Northshore
There is no way this huge offensive tackle will ever be confused with other great football players from the same state with the same last name. Faulk is another barrel-chested lineman that looks like he could bench press the world with very athletic-looking legs. He currently claims to carry 315 pounds on his 6-foot-6 frame and is ready to compete for playing time as a freshman.
6-4/255, Florence (S.C.) West Florence
This prospect is nicknamed 'hands' for good reason because his fingers look to be nearly 12 inches long. Goodman has wide shoulders and a narrow waist and it is hard to believe he weighed in at 255 pounds last week at the N.C./S.C. Shrine Bowl. Look for this speed-rushing monster to one day play at 270 pounds and remind people of Julius Peppers.
OT Marcus Hall
6-5/300, Cleveland Glenville
This Ohio native is already up over 300 pounds on a 6-foot-5 frame. Several jaws hit the ground when he walked into the Rivals.com media room. His upper and lower body is in proportion and he is keeping in shape running the hardwoods for his high school basketball team. Many have wondered if he is a big guard or an offensive tackle; I can tell you based on the way he looked on the hoof he is ready to compete for playing time this fall at tackle.
ILB Nico Johnson
6-3/226, Andalusia (Ala.) High
Of all the linebackers that checked in today he looked to have the most massive upper body. It is hard to believe he was not selected for the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic strictly based on his appearance. He even makes fellow Alabama native Tana Patrick look thin. When you describe NFL-sized linebackers, Johnson's face should be by the definition in the dictionary.
6-2/211, Fresno (Calif.) Edison
The son of six-time Pro Bowl selection Tim McDonald (who in 1994 was listed at 6-2/215) does not fall far from the same genetic tree. McDonald claimed to be 6-2 1/2, 211 pounds and may be the most physically imposing safety I have met this year. He has massive arms and an upper torso that would make Venice Beach proud. Look for this long-armed DB to have a career similar to his dad's at USC.
SDE Donte Moss
6-4/235, Jacksonville (N.C.) Northside
Of all the strongside defensive ends featured here, he looks the most athletic and may actually be a weakside end or a linebacker in the 3-4 defensive scheme. He possesses wide shoulders and the legs of a power forward in the NBA. Don't be surprised if he has the ability to drop in coverage and make plays in space. North Carolina has a difference maker on its hands.
WDE Alex Okafor
6-5/235, Pflugerville (Texas) High
Listed as a WDE because of his pass-rushing abilities, this tall, muscular Texas native has a frame that can easily hold another 25 pounds. Okafor has the body build of a small forward in the NBA and the long arms of a shot-blocking specialist. He will be able to play both defensive end positions at the University of Texas.
6-4/270, St. Louis Gateway
Richardson came in down 20 pounds from earlier this year but is still impressive on the hoof at 6-4/270. He has the flattest stomach of any potential DT I have ever seen. His body type and athletic ability gives Missouri plenty of options - TE, SDE or DT. Whether he plays at 300 pounds or 270, he will be one of the most athletic players ever to grace the gridiron in Columbia, Mo. He was even asking for a chance to return punts this week.
