Arkansas QB likes Hawgs, Rice, 3 others

Though he’s waiting on his first scholarship offer, Little Rock (Ark.) Central High quarterback Clark Irwin has been receiving serious interest, taking unofficial visits and sketching out plans for where he will take his official visits.
“I’ve talked to Arkansas and Coach [Houston] Nutt,” Irwin said. “I went up to see them play Alabama with Kevin Thornton from my school, and we sat in the recruiting section and talked to the coaches. I’m going to take an official there later this year.

“Arkansas told me it should be probably about a month or two before the official visit, but I’m going to go watch the Georgia game there.”
While Irwin has grown up cheering for the Razorbacks, he said that he would be willing to go elsewhere if the right opportunity presented itself. A score of other schools have contacted him, but he says that he’s focused on Arkansas and four other schools, with two current leaders.
“I’ve grown up loving the Razorbacks, but there’s other schools that are interested, so it’s not a strong factor that I stay in state,” Irwin said. “There’s still some other possibilities, but I’d say Arkansas may be the leader right now.
“I like Rice; I’ll take a recruiting trip there as well. Those would have to be my two leaders. I also like TCU, Vanderbilt and SMU.”
Little Rock Central, an Arkansas powerhouse is undefeated at 5-0, and a new offensive look has helped them spread their margin of victory.
“Last year we finished up 14-0, and so far this year we’re 5-0 and our defense has only allowed 3 points a game and the offense has been putting up 25-35 points a game,” Irwin said. “We’re where we want to be, we know we can improve but we couldn’t have asked for a better start.
“We kind of opened up the offense more this year than we ever have. We’re throwing it more, and I’ve thrown seven touchdowns through the first five games, rushed for two or three more. You can’t beat the start, and hopefully we keep it up.”
