Arkansas LB staying in state

Bearden, Ark., outside linebacker Ben Owens had three scholarship offers and one from an SEC program. However, name recognition was not a key factor in the decision of Owens.
"I decided that Arkansas State was the best fit for me," Owens said. "Arkansas State was a place where I felt comfortable. It is close to home and that was something that was really important to me."
The 6-foot2, 205 pound Owens runs the 40 yard dash in 4.55 seconds. He has a 4.0 GPA and has already posted a 22 on the ACT.
"I really like Vanderbilt a lot and I felt comfortable there, but it was just a little bit too far for me," Owens said. "Now my parents can come and see me play and that will be really cool.
Owens recently wrapped up his high school career and - based on his statistics - was a busy man. On offense, Owens carried the ball 170 times for 1,206 yards and 17 touchdowns. Defensively, he racked up 129 tackles, two sacks, an interception, forced one fumble and recovered another and totaled nine tackles for-loss.
