Quinton Harris is narrowing his list of schools now that some of
his favorites have come through with scholarship offers.
"I've been offered by
LSU, Mississippi State and Iowa," he said. "I'm still real high on LSU, but
Mississippi State is right there even with them now. It's a real tough decision
between those two.
"Iowa has been real nice to me, and I like their school,
but it's probably too far away. I want to be where my parents and friends can
see me play."
Harris (6-5, 297, 5.0) outlined some of the main factors that
will impact his decision.
"The main thing I'm focused on is who I'm going to
be able to step in and play for the soonest," he said. "I want to be able to
play a lot and contribute right away as a freshman. I think that I could do that
with either (LSU or Mississippi State). My size and strength and speed is about
the same as what they have now. I know I'd have to compete, and it would be
hard, but that's what I want to do.
"Mississippi State runs an 8-man front, so
that might more so fit me. But LSU has a great defensive staff and I like their
system, too. Both teams send a lot of players to the pros. That's something else
I've been studying."
Harris has pushed himself hard in the offseason to get in
better shape. He's trimmed almost 20 pounds since the end of last season and
brought his 40 time down to a 5-flat. He's also pushed his max bench press to
410 and his squat to 600.
"I'm in the best shape I've ever been in. I've been
working real hard, running hills about 3,000 miles a day," Harris joked. "I feel
like a different player right now. I'm real light on my feet right now. That's
bad news for my opponents this year."
As a junior, Harris recorded 46 tackles,
six sacks and six forced fumbles for Hall High School.
