Ark. OLB a super student

Bearden (Ark.) outside linebacker/running back Ben Owens is starting to create a buzz in recruiting circles. He is catching nationwide interest for not only his athletic abilities, but his academic success as well.
“Arkansas, Iowa, Memphis, Arkansas State, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Oklahoma, Miami, Harvard and Princeton are the schools that I’m hearing from on a regular basis,” Owens said.
The 6-foot2, 205 pound Owens runs the 40 yard dash in 4.55 seconds. He has a 4.0 GPA and has already posted an 18 on the ACT.
“My favorite is Miami and my number two school is Arkansas. I’m also looking really hard at Memphis, Oklahoma, Arkansas State, Iowa, Vanderbilt and Purdue.”
As a junior he carried the ball 151 times for 1,327 yards and 19 touchdowns. He also collected 81 tackles, three sacks and two interceptions.
“I went to Arkansas for a spring practice. The visit went great. The coaches seemed real nice and really accepted me well and made me feel welcome. Coach Nutt was a really friendly guy.”
Owens plans to attend the Nike camp at Texas A&M on May 1st as well as a mini camp at Arkansas over the summer.
“I wouldn’t mind getting away from home, but I also wouldn’t mind staying close. Distance from home won’t be a factor in my decision. I want to go somewhere that I will have the chance to play early. Also a school that has a great atmosphere and great fans is also important to me.”
