Arizona linemen to stay out West

Stephen Berg, a 6-foot-6, 305-pound two-way lineman at Tucson (Ariz.) Canyon del Oro, says he is primarily looking at several Pac-10 schools.
Arizona, Arizona State and Cal have offered scholarships. Washington, UCLA and Oregon continue to call weekly.

Berg was born in Tucson and has also lived in Phoenix. His father is now a building superintendent at the University of Arizona.
But that doesn’t make him a lock of the Wildcats, or even to stay in state.
“Right now, I’m just kind of looking around,” Berg said. “I’ve thought about it some and if I didn’t want to go away from home, I think Arizona would be a good choice because it’s a solid school and I like the coaches and how the school is really a part of Tucson.”
“Arizona State, if I went there, it would be a real good situation for me as far as how many people they have on the line. It looks like they need a lot of people to come in this year.”
The out-of-state schools have their own allure.
“I went out to UCLA this summer. I like the coaches, the facilities. The weather was real nice,” he said.
“I really don’t know much about Cal yet. I just know they’re a real good school.”
Berg was an all-region selection a year ago as an offensive tackle. He says each of the colleges are recruiting him as an offensive tackle.
