Arizona holds edge for Garner

Michael Garner had a nice performance in San Diego (Calif.) Madison's state championship victory against Kentfield (Calif.) Marin Catholic, and the 2014 wide receiver hopes it boosts his recruitment.
The 5-foot-10, 155-pound prospect is receiving a good deal of interest with an offer from Arizona and interest from Oregon State, Florida State, Washington, Wisconsin, Vanderbilt and others but more would not hurt, either.

"That's my only offer right now, but about 15 colleges are showing interest in me," Garner said.
Arizona has to have the early advantage in his recruitment, especially because Garner has two teammates, running back Pierre Cormier and athlete Lee Walker, committed to this Arizona recruiting class.
Garner said it could play a factor as his recruitment continues because having Cormier and Walker at Arizona would be similar to the situation the three enjoy now at the high school level.
That would be a good thing.
"It's good," Garner said. "If I end up going there, I'm going to have two great athletes to give me advice and talk to me about how I should do things. I think I can learn from them.
"It is a big factor. They're two great athletes, so I can learn from what they're doing, they can give me advice and it's always good to have some teammates up there."
Recruiting is just starting to pick up for Garner, who said he wants to see which other programs get involved in the coming months.
This past weekend was more about celebrating a hard-fought victory against Kentfield Marin Catholic, a game that came down to the final minutes.
"It's very exciting," Garner said. "It was the two top teams in California and we came out No. 1."
