Another Wisconsin player picks Northern

Northern Illinois has landed another Wisconsin player to add to its class of 2007. After word got out that Northern had landed a commitment Scott Wedige of Elkorn, Wis., news of another commitment from the state came down the pipe.
"Benny has committed to Northern," said Russ Johnson, the father of Somers (Wis.) Shoreland Lutheran linebacker Ben Johnson.

"He called and committed to coach Sam Pittman on Friday. Then he talked to coach Novak yesterday. Coach said that Benny had made his weekend with the news."
While he was recruited as a receiver by some schools, Northern ended up taking him at linebacker. It's a spot his father said he should be able to fit in quite well.
"Ben's very happy," his father said. "It's an hour and half from home, and they loved him at linebacker. From what I can tell, he fits their mold. They like them fast. I think he's got the build and speed to fit in there. He's really excited about the decision."
Johnson is ranked as a two-star prospect and the No. 8 player in Wisconsin by Rivals.com.
