Another Texas TE getting noticed

Coming off TCU’s academic day this past weekend, Deer Park, Texas, tight end Justin Akers’ recruiting future is still clear as mud.
“It was a good weekend,” Akers said. “You tour the campus and talk with your position coaches, and the coaches who are recruiting your area. But honestly, I have no favorites.”

Akers is being recruited by TCU, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Iowa, Nebraska, Baylor and Texas A&M, but has yet to receive any offers.
He earned first-team, all-district honors in football and basketball for the Deer, but knows his future is in football. The 6-5, 230-pound tight end had 30 receptions and 10 touchdowns as a junior in a high-octane offense.
Since last season, Deer Park’s former head coach has been replaced by Katy High School coordinator John Massey.
“I don’t know what to expect from next season, so I’m just going with the flow,” he said. I don’t know what his offensive philosophy is, but my talents are more focused as a receiving tight end.”
Akers, who ranks in the top 20 percent of his class, will be participating in the Nike Camp this spring.
