Another Recruiting Win For Vandy

Vanderbilt could be the surprise of the recruiting year if they continue landing top talent. Standout recruits Marcus Dixon and Jonathan Loyte were the first two to commit to the new staff at Vandy, and now another talented performer has spurned bigger programs to jump on board as well.
"We just returned from a trip to Vanderbilt and Greg committed," said the mother of Fork Union (Va.) Fork Union Military defensive end Greg Jacobs. "I guess word spread fast."

Jacobs, a 6-foot-3, 255-pound strongside defensive end, committed to Vanderbilt over an offer from Virginia Tech and heavy interest from Boston College, Maryland, UConn, North Carolina and Virginia.
"He was offered by Vanderbilt after he attended their camp in June and then Virginia Tech offered," she said. "He decided on Vanderbilt because they have everything he wants. They have great academics, a really nice and enthusiastic coaching staff and the area is just beautiful. He just fell in love with Nashville and wanted to decide before his senior season."
Jacobs camped all over the place this summer in an attempt to earn some offers and succeeded with his strength, speed and work ethic. Now he can concentrate on next season and a future with the Commodores.
"We're very happy for him," his mother said. "He thought very hard about this, but Vanderbilt really had everything he wanted in a school and he really liked the coaching staff. They seem to be building something there."
