Another QB For Duke

Just a few days after getting a commitment from Charlotte (N.C.) Independence quarterback Joe Cox, the Duke Blue Devils received another commitment from a signal-caller.
"Gene committed to Duke this weekend," said Joan Delle Donne, the mother of Wilmington (Del.) Salesianum quarterback Gene Delle Donne. "He just loved everything about his visit this weekend."

Delle Donne, who threw for 1,759 yards and 19 touchdowns against only four interceptions as a junior, chose the Blue Devils over interest from Notre Dame, Boston College, Ohio State, Maryland and Pittsburgh amongst others.
"One of the main reasons for Gene's decision to attend Duke is because of offensive coordinator Marty Galbraith, who worked with Chad Pennington at Marshall and Phillip Rivers at NC State," said Ernie Delle Donne, Gene's father. "Those are the two quarterbacks that Gene most often gets compared to because of his size, accuracy and the intangibles. To get to work with coach Galbraith and head coach Ted Roof is a great opporunity."
The commitment of Cox didn't lead to any hesitation from the Delle Donne family.
"The situation is a great one for Gene," said his father. "He's looking forward to competing to play possibly as a true freshman, that's what Duke would like. With two quarterbacks now committed, Duke said they are all full at the position and are happy with the situation."
Delle Donne will attend camp at Duke from June 11-13 to get a head start on his career.
