Another prospect emerging out of Cairo

Cairo (Ga.) High School has put together a dominating season so far in the state of Georgia. Following a state championship game performance in 2007, the Syrupmakers look poised to make another deep run in the playoffs and with a talented roster, the success is no surprise.
Among the prospects that have been receiving increased recruiting attention is outside linebacker Logan Bennett. Bennett, a 6-foot-0, 190-pounder lines up at defensive end for Cairo and his play has been a big reason for his team's success. Though he is more of a linebacker than a defensive end, Bennett enjoys the battles in the trenches with his hand down.

"Going from outside linebacker to defensive end, it's not too much of a change besides having to battle these big boys that are 300 pounds," Bennett said. "I like to head butt with people anyway."
Among the schools that have noticed Bennett's play is Georgia Southern, Appalachian State, Middle Tennessee State, Memphis, UAB and South Alabama. Both MTSU and South Alabama have extended offers and South Alabama in particular is standing out.
"The University of South Alabama, that's going to be a first time program in 2009," he said. "I really like them because I like being able to go in there and establish myself."
Though he hasn't set up any official visits yet, Bennett has also been considering who to visit and when. Appalachian State is a school that has expressed a serious interest in getting him on campus.
"At Appalachian State I've been talking to Coach Antonio Carter from up there," he said. "Me and him are real cool. We talk every week and he wants to get me up there for an official. I want to get up there and go to South Alabama, Middle Tennessee, Georgia Southern, all of them."
After a loss in the state championship game last season, Bennett is optimistic that he and his teammates will have a shot at redemption this season.
"If everyone plays 100 percent every down I don't think anybody can beat us," he said. "I don't think anybody can beat us if we go hard every game. Our coaches were saying that these could be our last couple of games so I think everybody listed to that and is very focused."
