Another Lost Weekend For Jones

It hasn’t been easy for Long Beach Poly (Calif.) wide out Derrick Jones
to get on a plane the past two weeks. First he had to cancel his visit to Oregon a week ago for family reasons and then his trip to Miami this weekend was canceled and he’s still not sure what happened there.

“The trip was set for me and Rodney (Van) but we never heard from Miami,” Van said. “They never sent a ticket for us and we never received a phone call explaining what was up. I guess they didn’t want us out there but no one ever told us anything, it was kind of weird. With Oregon, I stayed home for family reasons and was going to try and reschedule it but I’m running out of weekends right now.
“I leave for Cal next weekend and then I have Florida State on (Jan. 30). Right now, USC and FSU are running neck and neck but Cal is sneaking up there too. I like Oregon but just don’t see where I’ll be able to make that visit. Coach Bowden is coming over this Tuesday for a home visit but that’s the only home visit I have set up right now. I’m planning to make my decision a couple of days before Signing Day.”
Jones said all of his favorites have offered and although he won’t take an official visit to USC, may try and squeeze an unofficial in there somewhere.
“Like I’ve said before, I know all there is to know about USC,” Jones said. “I’ve been there a hundred times so I’m going to use these two weekends to visits schools out of the area and then I should be ready to make my decision.”
