Another Houston athlete stays home

The Rice Owls added another Houston-area offensive lineman to complement Galena Park bookend Jose Barcenas.
Tomball lineman Chris Ptaszek committed to the Rice Owls Wednesday afternoon during school. He was being recruited by the University of Houston, Colorado and Missouri.

“He’s a different kid,” offensive line coach Dwaine Wyman said. “I remember we had the lights off during pre-game to just think about the game. He was over reading a book about Yoga.”
At 6-4, 285-pounds, he is a trim lineman with terrific feet for the position.
“Chris is the real deal and very athletic,” Wyman said. “He’s a physical specimen that can run a 5.0 40-yard dash and squat nearly 500 pounds. He’s the most dominant lineman we have had here at Tomball and just loves to work. He’s going to be special.
“If it comes down to like Houston, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Rice – he might pick Rice,” Wyman said earlier in the season. “He just thinks of himself as a deep thinker and loves to be challenged academically.”
