Another four-star for UNC

Norwood (N.C.) South Stanly cornerback Terry Shankle announced his college destination on Monday morning at a press conference at his school. The 5-foot-10, 167-pound four-star had narrowed his choices to North Carolina, NC State, Alabama and Tennessee, but chose the Tar Heels in the end. His first cousin and mentor, Joe Chaple, gave Rivals.com the lowdown before it happened.
"For Terry it really came down to the coaching staff at UNC and the way they treated him and his family," said Chaple. "The professionalism of the staff at North Carolina and the people there made the difference. He just really had a great relationship with them and they treated his mom very well – always very respectful. He is happy with his choice because he just felt at home."

Shankle, who had an amazing 15 interceptions as a junior, took only one official visit throughout the process (to Tennessee) but saw North Carolina plenty of times over the last couple of years.
"Being around the players and coaches, he had a nice comfort level," Chaple said. "He and coach Thigpen and coach Withers were all on the same page. They spoke to Terry about coming to North Carolina to be a man and as much about things other than football as they did about playing. We also spoke to a lot of people who graduated from UNC and were very pleased to hear about the support group and how much a degree means from there. Terry has always liked Butch Davis and in the end the decision came down to people."
Shankle hopes to head to Chapel Hill and make an impact as soon as possible.
"They are going to give him a fair shake at playing early which is all you can ask," said Chaple, who helped Terry and his mother throughout the process. "I think he can play next year if he works hard."
Shankle is ranked as the No. 18 cornerback in the country and is a member of the Rivals250. He is the 10th player to commit to the Tar Heels ranked as a four star of better for the 2009 recruiting class.
