Another Evangel Star Looking West

Junior to Watch: Jacob Hester
School: Shreveport (La.) Evangel

Position: Running back/Fullback
Size and Speed: Hester is 6-foot-0 and 232. He has been timed in the 40 at 4.57.
Honors: Hester was selected all-state, all-area and all-league as a junior.
Statistics: The emergence of Hester as a running threat has made life all the tougher for Evangel opponents. Not only does the opposition have to worry about Evangel’s high flying aerial attack but now they have to stress over running game. Hester rushed for over 1,600 yards and 24 touchdowns. If worrying about Hester running the football wasn’t enough, he is also a valuable receiver out of the backfield hauling in 24 receptions for 311 yards.
Favorite Colleges: “Everyone who came by already has showed an interest in Jacob,” Evangel offensive coordinator John Booty said. LSU and Texas Tech have already offered. Oregon, USC and Oklahoma have also expressed interest. According to Booty, Hester may want to come out West to play.
Skinny: “Jacob is a throwback to the old power back who can really bring it,” Booty said. “He is extremely tough. Jacob can get you the tough yards and the speed to break the long one.”
Hester is the perfect single back in a one-back set. He can block, is an outstanding runner and is a threat to catch the ball out of the backfield.
Hester has the versatility to play tailback or fullback on the next. Booty feels fullback could be his best position.
“Jacob is extremely talented and could end up being a big time fullback,” Booty said. “Jacob could end up playing on Sundays.”
Evangel may be coming out West to play Westlake, Calif., and or Concord (Calif.) De la Salle.
