Another busy day for Hawkins

It was another busy day in the recruitment of Chris Hawkins as the Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., defensive back picked up offers from Cal and Nebraska.
Both surprised the 6-foot, 170-pound cornerback who also has Boise State, Northwestern, San Diego State, Stanford, UCLA, Washington and Washington State on his offer list.

"I'm very excited," Hawkins said. "I didn't even know Cal was going to offer me. I thought they were going to wait until I went to their junior day. Nebraska came out of nowhere."
Both schools are of interest to Hawkins, who said he's talked with Cal defensive backs coach Ashley Ambrose and that the Golden Bears will definitely be considered throughout his recruitment. He plans to attend Cal's junior day later this month.
Nebraska was a complete surprise but he'll add that one to his list and Hawkins said he wants to learn more about the Huskers' program. It's still too early to tell if Hawkins can make it out to Lincoln.
"I'm very interested in Cal," Hawkins said. "I know coach Ambrose and he talked to me about the recruiting process and I would love to attend that school.
"The next thing I know, (Nebraska wide receivers coach) Rich Fisher, the recruiter from their school friend requested me and then I called him. I talked to my father and he told me they just offered."
Since things are going so quickly for Hawkins, the Rancho Cucamonga standout said he's going to be patient through the recruiting process. Many more schools are showing interest so Hawkins said he's going to take his time.
"It's very exciting," Hawkins said. "I never thought I would be getting this type of hype or this many offers in my life."
