Gabe Angel said it's far too early to name a leader or even a group of favorites, but the 2016 athlete said last week at the Under Armour Junior Combine that he does have a dream offer.
If Notre Dame came through, it would be very big.
"Notre Dame would be one of those," said Angel, who visited South Bend this season and said he believes the Irish could be close to offering.
The 6-foot-2, 223-pound prospect from Lebanon (Tenn.) Wilson Central just finished his sophomore season, but he has already been offered by Kentucky, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.
Because it's so early, Angel is not rushing a list of top teams.
"I don't have a favorite at this point," Angel said. "It's just so early. I'm just kind of taking it all in right now."
Angel, who's been receiving interest from Florida State, Florida and Arkansas as well, has already visited the five programs that have offered and he's especially well-versed on the instate schools since they're so close to home.
The Wilson Central standout said he's impressed with Tennessee's recruiting efforts and that he's keeping a close watch to see how recruiting classes are formed. Both the Vols and Commodores are getting a serious look.
"I do just to see how well they do in recruiting," Angel said of watching the instate programs. "Coach (Butch) Jones at Tennessee has really done well this year in the 2014 class. I went to more Vandy games as a kid than I did Tennessee since I live closer."
