Amone lands his first offer

Orlando (Fla.) Dr. Phillips linebacker Phillip Amone picked up his first offer earlier this week.
"Florida Atlantic has offered me," Amone said. "That is my first offer. When I first got it, it was a big relief. I had been anticipating that first one and just hoping for the best and to get it as soon as possible."

The 5-foot-11, 221-pound prospect is intrigued by the Owls.
"They are close to home and the program is on the uprise, I think it is a pretty cool opportunity," Amone said.
Amone, who has yet to visit Florida Atlantic, said that Howard Schnellenberger and his staff like his versatility in the front seven.
"I know they like me as a linebacker," Amone said. "They said I could play inside or outside (linebacker) in their scheme. I know they run a 4-3 defense."
During the summer, Amone plans to take a trip to Florida Atlantic.
"I have looked at their website and heard what the coaches told me," Amone said. "I know they are going to have a new stadium in 2012 which is going to be when I get there. So that would be a cool experience to play in the new stadium."
Amone, who says he is also hearing from Northwestern, Purdue, Tulane, Georgia Southern, Temple, Utah, Colorado, Hawaii, and a few others, has previously visited Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, South Florida, and Utah.
No visits will occur until after the spring season. At this time, he is focused on spring football and preparing for Dr. Phillips' spring game against Cocoa.
