Alton Dixon about 70 percent sure

Lufkin, Texas cornerback Alton Dixon is getting closer to a decision. The three-star rated standout has taken one official visit, and has one more on the calendar, and that might be enough to help him make his choice.
“I took my first trip last month to Washington State,” the 6-foot, 195-pound Dixon said. “It was alright. The town reminds me a lot of Lufkin. It’s real tight and everyone knows each other. The team was real close, which is a good thing, but I can’t really see myself playing there. It’s a long way from home.”

Dixon continues to receive phone calls and mail from Oklahoma, Florida, Texas A&M and Washington State.
“Nothing really new is coming up,” he said. “I have a visit scheduled to Texas A&M for the weekend of Dec. 17. That is the only other trip I have planned right now. I did have one scheduled for Oklahoma for the second week of December, but I am not going to take that trip.
“It is nothing Oklahoma has done or anything like that. I have family here. My grandfather and I are the only ones here. I need to be close to him to check on him. Texas A&M is closer than Oklahoma is. I really think I am probably going to go to Texas A&M. I would say it is 70 percent that I choose Texas A&M, but 30 percent of me wants to check out Oklahoma. I just keep thinking that Texas A&M might be the better place for me.”
Dixon has been playing safety most of the season for Lufkin this year, but did get the chance to play cornerback last week.
“I played corner last week,” he said. “I have been playing safety. I’m third on the team in tackles with 52. The other team threw it three times deep to my side last week. My guy didn’t get any of them. He was just shut down early. I still don’t have any interceptions yet. I thought I was going to get one last week, but it didn’t happen.”
