Altmyer de-commits from FSU, in-state school now trending

Starkville (Miss.) four-star quarterback Luke Altmyer committed to Florida State very early in February last year. He had connections with Mike Norvell when he was at Memphis, he liked his offensive style, and felt the Seminoles were right for him.

That feeling stayed strong for a long time, but over time, Altmyer started having second thoughts about Florida State. He made a decision extremely early in the process, before COVID-19 struck, and he has had plenty of time to think things over.

"I just didn't feel comfortable with my decision and I didn't feel my heart was in the right place," said Altmyer. "I wasn't all in, so I wanted to decommit and make sure I am comfortable with the whole situation moving forward.

"Just with the whole situation in 2020, and all that has transpired this year, it has made it difficult."

Alabama was pushing hard before Jalen Milroe committed to the Tide. Once Milroe was in, that interest faded, but Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss have never slowed their recruitment of Altmyer.

Offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby and Kiffin have been in constant contact since they arrived in Oxford, and over the weekend, Altmyer was at Ole Miss for the Egg Bowl.

The Rebels have seemed to grab the momentum for Altmyer, and the early enrollee will sign December 16.

A final decision is likely to be made by the end of this week.
