Maryland and Pitt were the first schools to offer a junior safety from the region and by doing so they secured spots at the top of his list.
The Terps and Panthers got an early look at Marcus Allen, a 6-foot-2, 188-pound defensive back from Upper Marlboro ( Md. ) Wise, and decided to verbally offer him. That has worked out well for them so far.
"I do like Maryland and Pittsburgh , the two schools that have offered me," Allen said, before pointing out that his list could change and folks shouldn't read too much into that yet.
"I honestly want to try my hardest to get to games and make some visits but I can't. Every game schools have is during my games."
So visits might have to wait until after his high school season is over or maybe even the winter or spring.
What are some of the schools that have been in contact with Allen that he could ultimately consider for unofficial visits?
"I've been in contact with UCLA, Rutgers, Pittsburgh, Maryland, Miami and Colorado. (There are) some more but I can't think of all of them," he said.
On the field Allen has made some nice strides since last year. He has helped Wise to a 2-0 mark with a game against Roosevelt this Saturday. Through two games he has seven tackles and three deflections. Allen said he's been doing a better job of reading the quarterback and making more sound decisions.
