All systems go for 3-Star Texas Tech OL commit Hakeem White

WACO, Tex. -- Sometimes a whole lot doesn’t need to be said, and when it comes to Hakeem White and his commitment to Texas Tech, less is more.

Following Hewitt-Midway’s win over Mansfield last Friday night at Baylor’s McLane Stadium, White wasn’t thinking much about his commitment to the Red Raiders as he was moving on to this Saturday’s upcoming game against Southlake Carroll. That much is easier to do following Tech’s announcement that it would retain head coach Kliff Kingsbury for next season.

“It means a lot,” he said. “I wanted to get coached by him, so it’s good that he’s staying … I really wasn’t worried about it; I knew that everything was going to be good whether he left or not.”

White confirmed that he is planning on visiting Tech on the weekend of January 19. He was also resolute in talking about his commitment and his plans after joining the team.

IN HIS WORDS

On what he saw from the Tech offensive line this season

“They’re young,” he said. “They’re going to get better and build next year. I just hope that I can get in there and find a good spot to go compete.”

On his evaluation of the class that Tech has assembled so far in 2018

“It’s a nice class,” he said. “We should do real good, that’s all I have to say.”

RIVALS REACTION

White didn’t hesitate when discussing matters of his commitment to Tech, and doesn’t appear to have much in the way of other programs trying to steal him away at this point. He had a nice game playing tackle against Mansfield, but still has the look of a player that has a brighter future as an interior lineman.
