All-State DB Looking to Leave the West

There weren't many players better in-state last season than Palm Springs (Calif.) two way standout A.J Scott. Scott, 5-10, 190 pounds put up huge numbers on both sides of the ball earning a number of well deserved post-season honors.
Scott played both running back and defensive back for Palm Springs a year ago but projects on the defensive side of the ball. At running back, Scott rushed 161 times for 1,417 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also caught 15 balls for 325 yards and three touchdowns. At safety, Scott totaled 90 tackles, picked off eight passes and three sacks and earned 1st team All-Area, All-CIF and All-State Underclass honors.

Scott attended the SoCal Nike Camp a year ago and will again attend the Nike camp, this year at SDSU. There's no question about Scott's ability on the football field but there is a question mark about the athlete's over all speed and explosiveness. Scott isn't the kind of player that is going to wow you with his speed or athleticism but is one of those players that has great football instincts, is always around the ball and just makes plays.
"I'm working out hard to try and impress at the Nike Camp," Scott said. "I've been running and lifting and I can feel myself getting faster and stronger."
On the recruiting front, Scott is hearing from most of the Pac 10 plus Notre Dame and Colorado.
Florida State and Penn State are my childhood favorites and those are still my top two right now," Scott said. "After that, I'm pretty open and like Arizona, USC, Colorado and a number of others."
