All-purpose back ready to step up

Running back Matt Williams (5-10, 180, 4.4) from Ridgecrest (Calif.) Burroughs is an all-purpose back to keep your eye on. He is the epitome of the all-purpose back as he can catch as well as he can run. Williams was selected all-league and all-county for his junior season performance.
Williams rushed for 1,162 yards on 112 carries for an average of 10.4 yards per carry. He also tacked on 16 touchdowns as a junior.

As a receiver, Williams had 26 receptions for 247 yards.
What makes Williams’ stats so impressive is the fact that he had to share touches with a player who broke the state of California single season pass receiving yard record.
Williams was not the go to guy a year ago because of the stellar performance of Colorado State bound wide receiver/defensive back Anthony Celestine.
A huge season is expected out of Williams. Look for Williams to see his touches double at least this fall.
“Matt has terrific vision and is an excellent open field runner,” Burroughs head coach Jeff Steinberg said. “He can cut and hit top speed immediately.”
“Matt’s rushing style is that of a slasher,” Steinberg said. “As a running back he is double threat as a runner and as a pass receiver.”
Williams is a hard worker on and off the field. His bench is 240, squat 410 and has recorded a vertical of 31-inches.
Colorado State, Oregon State and Arizona are three schools that have showed early interest.
