Ben Wells admits he's a dreamer. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound four-star cornerback from Beaumont (Texas) Ozen said he has always dreamed about being an All-American. Well, when Rivals.com selected him to play in the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl on Jan. 4 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., his dream came true.
"It's been something I've wanted to be since I was a little kid," he said. "Not too many people get to say they're an All-American or play in a game like this. I'm going to relish every minute of this and run with it. It's a great opportunity to play on national television (ESPNU), and I'm really excited Rivals.com selected me to play in the game."
Wells, a longtime Texas commitment, said he's excited he's going to represent the Longhorns in the game. So you expect plenty of flashes of the "Hook 'em Horns" sign.
"Texas fans are going to see what they're getting for the next four years," Wells said. "Hopefully, I'll get to pick one off and take it back to the house. I'll put on a show for all of them. I'm an exciting person to watch. I'm a very confident lockdown cornerback. I don't know if those guys on the East are even going to get off the line. I'm really physical."
And when he does make that big play?
"You know you're going to see hook 'em all over the place," Wells said.
Wells said he has already been talking to Earl Thomas about their game plan for the All-American Bowl.
"I talked to Earl about it a couple of days ago," Wells said. "We're going to represent for the Longhorns down there in Fort Lauderdale. I saw that Keenan (Robinson) is also in the game. I've not seen Keenan in a long time, so it's going to be really cool to hang with him, too."
So why did Wells originally commit to Texas back in late February?
"It's a place where my family can watch me play every week," Wells said. "I feel real comfortable there, too. I have a couple of friends that used to play with UT, and they loved everything about it. I was also very comfortable with the coaching staff. They made me feel like I was part of the family."
