Blue-chip Texas running back Lennon Creer's emotions were running high when he found out he was selected for the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl on Jan. 4.
The event, to be played in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and televised on ESPNU, will give Creer the opportunity to show people he's not your everyday high school running back.
"It's a great accomplishment to play with other All-Americans across the nation," Creer said. "I'm going to represent Texas, I do that anywhere I play. But, I'm also going to show my ability to do it all as a balanced running back."
Creer's team won its first-round playoff game, and now the highly recruited back is headed to the second round looking for another state title. Creer has displayed his talents all season, so the all-star appearance won't be about proving himself.
"I just want to have fun," Creer said. "I'm not going out there with the mind-set of proving anything. I'm just looking to compete and enjoy myself."
As for his recruiting process, things are coming down to the wire. Creer says that three schools are leading the way, and he already has an idea of where he may be heading.
"My top three are Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Georgia," Creer said. "I've already been to Oklahoma and Tennessee and I'll probably visit Georgia and some others after the season. All three of those schools play in good conferences and they produce a lot of great running backs. There is a lot of tradition at each one of those schools.
"I actually have an idea of where I might be going, but I'm not going to let that out until the season is over. I might announce it at the bowl game actually."
