All-America LB makes switch

Two years ago Gabe Toomey signed with Oklahoma. That’s when he had a chance to meet current Kansas head coach Mark Mangino.
“He’s one of those coaches you love to play for,” Toomey said. “Coach Mangino and I have a great relationship. I have committed to the University of Kansas.”

Toomey had been comitted to Iowa State, but called the Cyclones this morning to let them know he was making the switch after visiting Lawrence this weekend.
Toomey, 6-4, 230, was selected as a first team NJCAA All-American at linebacker this season for Iowa Central Community College. He was also selected as the Iowa Community College Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
“I loved my visit to Kansas,” Toomey said. “Coach Mangino is doing an awesome job."
Toomey also mentioned the fact he knows Seth Littrell from his days at Oklahoma.
Gabe’s brother Zach Toomey will also attend Kansas as a walk-on. He signed out of high school with Truman State. He played last season at Iowa Central Community College.
Toomey said he will play the WILL linebacker position.
