When you have two four-star older brothers that played for the same school as you for the past five years, there is going to be just a little bit of pressure to be next in line to continue the tradition.
2022 prospect Alex Orji is the younger brother to Vanderbilt signees/commits Alston and Anfernee Orji, but rather than follow in their footsteps as punishing defenders for Rockwall, he’s building his legacy at wide receiver.
“I’ve talked to my coaches and my parents and we all think that I’m an offensive player,” he said. “If they move me and I like it, that’s one thing, but right now I’m liking offense, they like me on offense, and that’s football.”
The youngest Orji has yet to pick up his first offer, but if family history is any indication, he shouldn’t be long for waiting on that. The Commodores have clearly been aware of his emergence, as has Baylor, who has recruited the family hard and seems ready to try and break the Nashville connection.
IN HIS WORDS
On Baylor, where he visited in the spring
“It’s a great place,” he said. “I really think that Coach (Jeff) Nixon is trying hard for me and my whole family. He’s missed out on two of us so far, but I think that he’s still trying hard for me.”
On Vanderbilt
“It’s a lot of pressure on me when it comes to them,” he said. “That’s a school where you have to be smart to go, my family loves it, they tell us all the time that we’re smart kids and should be looking at a school like that. If it’s the fit, it’s the fit.”
RIVALS REACTION
Orji is just getting started, but there is no question that he’s coming from a strong gene pool when it comes to top football players. Even as a freshman, he looks physically like he’s well on his way to developing in the way that this older brothers have. When one sibling goes to a school, the influence is obvious, but when two go to the same program, that seems to leave Vandy in a pretty advantageous position should the Commodores choose to pursue Alex Orji as well.
