HOUSTON, Tex. – The crop of 2019 Texas cornerbacks may not feel as top-heavy compared to years past, but it’s certainly deep, and one of the players that has been creeping to the top of the group over the course of the spring has been Houston-Lamar cornerback Alex Hogan.

After a top performance a few months ago in the Houston Rivals 3 Stripe Camp presented by adidas, Hogan hit the road to start his tour of official visits and will be at Iowa State this weekend before likely taking his final one to Utah in the fall when the Utes host USC.

Hogan kicked things off with an official visit to Colorado – where there was significant speculation that he would commit, but he’s since taken others to Memphis and Texas Tech. Although four of the five are in Power Five conferences, Hogan said the feeling with the Tigers was positive and choosing them would provide him with a good opportunity to play early.

“I loved it up there,” he said. “It felt at home – like Houston – and I liked the coaching environment and the players, we all get along, so it was good.”

IN HIS WORDS

Recapping his Colorado visit

“Colorado was nice,” he said. “I like the coaches, it felt like home, it was nice – it was a nice school. I didn’t know the head coach [Mike MacIntyre] spent something like six years in the [NFL] coaching DB’s. When you have a DB’s coach [Ashley Ambrose] that played close to 15 years in the league and a head coach that coached in the league, that means a lot.”

On where things stand with Texas Tech

“It’s a real good conversation,” he said. “I feel like there I have the chance to go in and start, but I have that same kind of feeling at Memphis, Colorado and Iowa State. So it’s hard to choose, so I have to figure out what’s best for me and my family.”

“[2018 signee Ta’Zhawn Henry] committed there and he’s been telling me it’s a good school,” he said. “He’s been telling me how much they take care of you and all of that.”

On Iowa State

“I won’t know too much about how I’m feeling with them until I go on my official,” he said. “They just want me to keep them in mind and not forget about them, because that’s a good school and everything.”
