Alaska TE heads to Mountain West

This has been a good week to be a Colorado State Ram fan. The Rams first picked up in-state commitments from former Denver Mullen teammates Rick Brewer and Josh Dorsey and then they went outside the Mainland to land their latest commitment from one of the few Division I prospects in Alaska.
According to Anchorage (Alaska) East Anchorage coach Roger Spackman tight end Cordell Macon has committed to the Rams after an official visit there this weekend.

"He's 6-foot-6 and 220 pounds and runs really well," Spackman said. "He's a 4.7 kid in the 40 and also runs a 50-second 400 meters. He had a terrific senior season, and he sent out all of the tapes and suddenly he had people from all over looking at him."
People like Boise State, Utah State and Wyoming, who were all hoping he would take official visits there. But he won't now that he's committed to the Rams.
"He committed on his first visit," Spackman said. "I kind of encouraged him to take a few other visits just to be sure. But he told me 'Coach, Ft. Collins is just like Anchorage. It feels just like home.' How could tell a kid no when he is so sure of something like he is?"
Macon projects as a tight end, but could also play some in the slot for the Rams.
"We split him out quite a bit," his coach said. "We run a spread offense and half the time he was in the slot. He's going to have to work on a few things to be an impact player in college. He'll need to gain some weight, but he has a great work ethic, and we know he'll get it done and be a very good player for them."
