Growing up, Alexander City (Ala.) Benjamin Russell tight end Michael Goggans followed the in-state Alabama team but when his recruiting took off he was hit with more than a stack of offers.
Scholarships mounted from Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Louisville, Clemson, and even Alabama. The 6-foot-2, 247-pound tight end had not anticipated it in the beginning but is now finding the time to work on his senior season preparation and figure out recruiting.
"I've been able to manage both pretty well," Goggans said now that his fall practices are underway. "I'm going with the flow on all of this. It's not affecting me right now."
Auburn and Tennessee were both camp stops for Goggans and one of those teams has shot to the top of the charts.
"Tennessee is my No. 1," Goggans said. "It's basically because they jumped on me pretty early on and I just like that tradition. Their head coach is good and they're recruiting me for a ton of different positions."
Though there is a leader, Alabama is not far behind.
"Well, I grew up watching them so I know the town, I know the facilities and have a great program as well," Goggans said.
His decision is slated for the end of the season. However, between now and then Goggans is looking at visits. Tennessee looks first.
"We're in the process of setting one up at the end of September," Goggans said. "That's the one I know of right now."
Goggans is a four-star rated, Rivals250 member and the No. 10 rated tight end in the nation.
