“I’m going to Southern Miss,” he said. “I committed to them after going on my visit last weekend. I just liked the atmosphere there more than any of the other schools that were looking at me. They made me feel like I was really wanted there, and I think it’s a place that I could wind up staying there even after college is over.”
Phillips (6-5, 245, 5.0) also had offers from UAB and Troy State, while drawing interest from Ole Miss and Mississippi State.
“I had a good relationship with the Southern Miss coaches,” he said. “They were real nice to me the whole time. And when I spent some time with the players on my visit, that kind of sealed my decision.”
