Alabama offers R100 Julian Barnett as a DB

After teammate Devonate Dobbs jumped out with a slew of offers, Belleville, Mich., 2019 athlete Julian Barnett started to catch up this spring and summer. His latest offer came on Sunday after camping with the Alabama Crimson Tide.

THE LATEST

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Barnett burst onto the scene as a freshman showing elite skills as a wide receiver prospect. Auburn, Georgia, Iowa, Michigan State and Notre Dame were among the schools that offered Barnett leading into the summer. In recent months, though, several schools have started showing interest in Barnett as a defensive back prospect. This past week he traveled to see the two schools that played in the 2017 National Championship Game – Alabama and Clemson – and came away from Tuscaloosa with an offer from the Crimson Tide for the cornerback position.

IN HIS WORDS

“(The offer was) very exciting and it means a lot coming from ‘NFL U.’”

RIVALS’ REACTION

This was Barnett’s second visit to Alabama in just a few months, after he stopped there in early spring with Dobbs and four-star class of 2018 lineman Tyrone Sampson. Early in this recruitment Barnett has shown a lot of national interest based on where he has visited, and he confirmed this visit was specifically to earn an offer from the Crimson Tide. They worked him out exclusively at defensive back, and project him to cornerback. Alabama is going to be a major player here and expect Barnett and Dobbs to be back in Tuscaloosa this fall to see a game. He felt his camp with Clemson also went well and is optimistic the Tigers will offer in the near future.
