Alabama offer shakes up Russ Yeast’s list

Greenwood (Ind.) Center Grove three-star athlete Russ Yeast came out with a top six just one week ago, but already that list is expanding following a new offer from Alabama during an unofficial visit to Tuscaloosa on Saturday.

WHAT’S NEXT

The six schools that made up Yeast’s top group were Auburn, Illinois, Iowa, Louisville, Ole Miss and Northwestern. Yeast had visited each of those schools except the two SEC programs, so he and his father – the offensive coordinator at Division 3 Franklin College and a former college and NFL wide receiver – made a trip south this weekend to visit both Auburn and Ole Miss. After seeing Ole Miss early on Saturday, they stopped at Alabama where an offer was extended by head coach Nick Saban.

IN HIS WORDS

“It definitely shakes things up a bit. (The Alabama) visit went well; I saw a lot. My dad likes Saban a lot (and) he liked a lot of the staff. We went to Ole Miss yesterday too and that went great. A lot of very good people down there.”

RIVALS’ REACTION

Yeast will visit Auburn on Monday. With his father being an SEC (Kentucky) veteran, that conference should hold plenty of appeal for the younger Yeast. He does have visits planned to Illinois and Iowa later this week and recently came off a visit to Louisville that he said raised his interest in the Cardinals. Yeast is planning an early fall decision, and even with the most recent offer that timeframe is likely to stay intact. Alabama is certainly an offer that has the three-star’s attention, though, and the Crimson Tide should be a strong factor in this race going forward.
