THE LATEST: It was a good week for 2019 defensive back Jalyn Phillips. The 2019 prospect out of Lawrenceville (Ga.) Archer added a couple of new offers, one being from Alabama. He recently was over in Tuscaloosa (Ala.) to workout for the Crimson Tide coaches, then on Friday July 28, Phillips found out he had an offer from Alabama.

That changed things for him. Any time Alabama offers a prospect in the South, it catches their attention, and it is no different with Phillips. The Crimson Tide made a big move with this offer.

IN HIS OWN WORDS: "I went to Alabama for a private workout with coach [Derrick] Ansley (defensive backs) about a week and a half ago, so I knew they were interested in me," said Phillips. "It was my first time at Alabama, so I got to see things, I got to meet some of the coaches and I got to work one-on-one with coach Ansley.

"It is Title-town down there. Everything is Alabama. Everyone loves Alabama and it was amazing there.

"The coaching staff caught my attention the most. They take things very serious and they really love their players. They are out to be the best.

"Coach [Tosh] Lupoi (linebackers) is the recruiting coach for my area, so he contacted my coach, then I spoke with him about the offer. He set up my private workout too, so coach Lupoi has been the main coach for me. I was very excited when I found about the offer.

"This offer definitely moves Alabama up on my list. Any time they offer, they will make a move. Clemson has been my favorite school, and then it was some other schools, but the Alabama offer pushes them up there very close to Clemson.

"Alabama likes my size, they like how I move and they think I can play strong safety or nickel in their scheme. They even mentioned cornerback too. I will be getting back over there for a game now this season."

RIVALS REACTION: When it comes to schools that have offered, Alabama is now the favorite for Phillips. He is a big Clemson fan, and he wants that offer, but the Tigers are in the evaluation process with Phillips. At one time he thought he might commit to a school this summer, but he has decided to slow things down and take more time. A decision is still likely to come at some point during his junior year. He has over 20 offers and more are expected to come in once some junior film gets out this fall.
