Alabama-Mississippi: Top performers

Recruiting wrap: Davis has yet to settle on a school. He's open to a number of
programs, but Georgia and Alabama are Davis' most likely landing spots.
Performance: Davis' game day effort was punctuated by a 79-yard interception
return for a touchdown. The five-star linebacker also made a game-high 11
tackles. Davis's size-speed combination allows him to cut off passing lanes and
run down ball carriers all over the field. No player was more consistently great
in workouts and the game itself. Davis looks like a college-ready prospect and
backs up his look on the field.

WR
DeKaylin Metcalf
Oxford, Miss.
Recruiting wrap: Metcalf is solidly committed to Ole Miss.
Performance: Metcalf's size and long arms are discussed often, but the big wide
receiver showed some speed in the game's first quarters, when he took a short
out-route 69 yards for a touchdown. Metcalf has been incredibly well-coached and
knows how to use his length to his advantage in nearly every situation. He was
one of a handful of players that never really had an off day in practice.

DL
Raekwon Davis
Meridian, Miss.
Recruiting wrap: Davis is committed to Alabama but taking a look at multiple
other schools, including Mississippi State and others.
Performance: Davis is as physically imposing a player as there is in the country
and has the body of a college junior as things stand now. He uses his power well
and moves decently for a player of his size. He attracted regular double teams
during the All-Star game and was a handful at practices as well.
5
DL
Jeffery Simmons
Macon (Miss.) Noxubee County
Recruiting wrap: Simmons is considering Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Auburn, Alabama and Southern Miss.
Performance: Simmons is incredibly quick off the edge. He racked
up seven tackles in the game and was in the backfield often during
practices. Simmons' long arms allow him to cover ground faster
and he wraps up well in run support. Simmons' quickness and length made him a
handful for offensive linemen all week.
6
DL
Quinnen Williams
Birmingham (Ala.) Wenonah
Recruiting wrap: Williams is solidly committed to Alabama.
Performance: One of the week's nice surprises, Williams caused trouble in
early-week practices because his ability to disrupt was costing the Team
Alabama quarterbacks reps. He took s a small step back in late-week practices
and was decent in the game, but he was one of the best players on the field for
the week's first two workouts.
7
DB
Nigel Knott
Madison (Miss.) Germantown
Recruiting wrap: Knott is considering USC, Oregon, Ole Miss, Mississippi State,
Alabama and Florida State.
Performance: Knott is an elite-level athlete with great speed and a downright
incredible vertical. He has a knack for the spectacular and uses his quickness
to close on receivers in a hurry. Even when he fails in coverage, a pass needs
to be thrown remarkably well to beat Knott, who recovers as well as any
defensive back in country. Also a threat in the return game, the four-star
prospect can help a team in a number of ways.
8
DL
Marlon Davidson
Greenville, Ala.
Recruiting wrap: Davidson is committed to Auburn but will take a final look
around before signing with the Tigers.
Performance: Davidson commands double teams because of his power and did plenty
of that on game day. Davidson is a lot more than raw power, though, as he boasts
a nice repertoire of pass rush moves, including a smooth spin that frequently
works.
9
WR
Xavier Lane
Montgomery (Ala.) Carver
Recruiting wrap: Lane has offers from Western Kentucky, Cincinnati and a few
other programs.
Performance: Lane was one of the week's biggest surprises. He was a focal point
of the Team Alabama offense in practices, where his length and solid routes
allowed him to catch most anything in his orbit. He dropped a pass or two, but
was targeted often, and the good far outweighed the bad. He finished Saturday's
game with a team-high six catches for 59 yards
10
TE
Octavious Cooley
Laurel, Miss.
Recruiting wrap: Cooley is committed to Ole Miss.
Performance: Cooley was quiet during the game itself. He blocked well but was
held in check in the passing game. That was not the case in practices, however.
Cooley was targeted often all week and made catches on a number of routes. He
has a solid build that lends itself to versatility when it comes to a balance
between blocking at acting as a target.
