Alabama-Mississippi All-Stars: Jones strong to Ole Miss

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — When Jacquez Jones committed to Ole Miss in September, he still may have had some concerns about the Rebels and where the program was headed. He visited Mississippi State a week after committing and word on the street was that the Bulldogs had a real chance to flip him.

Jones thinking of any not outside of Oxford (Miss.) is in the past and he is ready to sign his letter of intent next week.

"I am 100-percent Ole Miss and I will be signing with them on December 20," said Jones. "When the allegations were still out there and I did not know about the coaching situation, I was looking around a little bit, but all that is out there now and I am happy to be with Ole Miss.

"You always have to have a Plan B in recruiting, but that was gone a long time ago. I have been there seven or eight times, I feel like part of the family and it is done for me now."

When Jones got the news that Matt Luke was officially becoming the leader of the Ole Miss football program, he couldn't have been happier. The linebacker out of Tuscaloosa (Ala.) Hillcrest has built a strong relationship with Luke and loves who he is on and off the field.

"I was so happy when he was named the head coach. Coach Luke is a good coach and he has shown that and he is a great person as well. He is a family man and he cares about the players.

"He always puts family first and when my parents met with him, they really liked him a lot. Coach Luke is a great guy."

The Rebels will not sign a full class in 2018, likely just under 20 when all is said and done, but Jones is working hard just like the coaching staff to get the best players in.

"I am trying to load up the class," said Jones. "I tell recruits that are looking at Ole Miss that this class can be one that turns things around and puts Ole Miss back on the map.

"I have talked to Matt Corral (Florida commit), Fabien Lovett (Mississippi State commit) and other guys. I want to do all I can to help us get the best players in there for the future."

The future is bright in Jones's eyes. He has watched Ole Miss win some big games in recent years and he wants to make that the norm when he arrives.

"I really believe we can come in and win some championships. Ole Miss has defeated Alabama in recent years and we can do it again. We can play with the best and Ole Miss has already shown that.

"I am all Ole Miss and I excited about the future. We have proven we can play with the best in the SEC and I want to go there and play for some championships."
