Alabama-Mississippi All-Stars: Jenkins will have a busy January

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — It seems like every time you ask Marcus Jenkins, the four-star offensive guard out of Montgomery (Ala.) Park Crossing about when he is visiting a school, the answer is January.

Good thing his list isn't longer.

Four schools remain in the hunt for the top 10 prospect in Alabama and he gives the latest.

IN HIS OWN WORDS: "The main schools right now are Oklahoma, Louisville, Auburn and Ole Miss," said Jenkins. "Some schools want me to sign early, but I do not think I will next week. I still have to talk with my mom about it, but I just don't see it right now."

LOUISVILLE: "I was supposed to visit Louisville last weekend, but the weather messed things up, so I will be up there in January. Coach [Mike] Summers is my guy there and I like him a lot. He is a good coach, he has been recruiting me since he was at Florida and we have a good relationship. I was there for the Clemson game and I like the environment up there."

AUBURN: "I just met with coach [Kevin] Steele last week and we are still talking a good bit. Auburn is a school I have always liked. I know a lot about the school and their history, so it is a great place. I plan to take an official visit in January, so we will see happens. I know they are still talking to me and my mom right now."

OLE MISS: "I really like coach [Matt] Luke and he is a good coach. He is an offensive line coach, he has been recruiting me since my sophomore year and when he was named the head coach, I looked at them a little harder. I will be there January 19 for my official visit. The sanctions against them do not hurt them at all. I have been there before, I like the coaches and I have a lot of interest in them."

OKLAHOMA: "I had a great in-home visit with coach B (Bill Bendenbaugh) last Sunday and we have had some great talks. Him and I talk really well together. I have been trying to get out there, but I will get out there in January. They definitely get one. I have a good relationship with coach B, so I want to get out on the campus now."

FAVORITES: "I do not have a top school or anything like that right now. People can always think that, but I am looking at all the schools the same right now."

DECISION TIMELINE: "I am not sure yet on when I will commit. I may not wait until February though. If I feel right after my official visits, I will go ahead and do it then. I have been close before. I have thought I was ready before, but I just decided to wait. The visits will be important to me."

RIVALS REACTION: Jenkins had a very good week in Hattiesburg and he was impressive in the trenches. His recruitment has stayed about the same the last few months and some on the outside view Louisville as the favorite. Jenkins made it clear that he is not leaning towards a specific school at this time. Will he sign next week during the early signing period? It does not look like it, but there is still that possibility. If Auburn goes hard after Jenkins, then you have to watch the Tigers. If not, he is leaving the state to play college football.
