Alabama, LSU, Florida lead for 2021 standout Brashard Smith
THE LATEST: Versatile athlete Brashard Smith of Miami Palmetto High flashed his defining trait in a recent game against South Dade High School, as he took the opening kick back for a score before alternating between playing running back and wide receiver in his team’s victory. Following the game, Smith discussed his three frontrunners with Rivals.com.
ON WHICH SCHOOLS LEADS HIS RECRUITMENT:
“My top schools are Alabama, LSU and Florida.”
ON ALABAMA:
“I like the offense. I like how they approach offense and how they tell me that I can move around a lot. I’d play slot and I’d play in the backfield. I liked that a lot. “
ON HIS TWO VISITS TO TUSCALOOSA:
“They were pretty good. I liked it, but the reason I really like Alabama mostly is they way I fit.”
ON LSU:
“I haven’t visited yet but they are telling me I fit with them the same way I fit with Alabama, so I like that. I just want to go visit and check it out.”
ON FLORIDA:
“I saw them here tonight and I knew Coach was coming. They just told me they wanted to see me make plays and I feel like I did that, They wanted me to lead my team.”
ON WHAT PUTS THE GATORS NEAR THE TOP:
“I just like … I like everything, man. I like it all with Florida. I like the coaching. I like how they play, too. I like how they use their backs in different ways. It’s everything.”
ON HOW HE DESCRIBES HIS STYLE OF PLAY:
“I’m a versatile back. I play running back. I play slot. I’ll probably play slot in college. I don’;t know, though. I could do both or either.”
ON WHAT HE WANTS IN A COLLEGE:
“I just want to see the field early. That’s big for me. I want to feel it with the coaches, too. I want them to love me and take care of me.”
RIVALS REACTION: It’s clear that Smith feels most comfortable with Florida as things stand. It’s early, though, so that may not mean a lot just yet. The Gators have to love where they stand, however, as it seems the pecking order goes; UF, Alabama, LSU. Things could change as Smith’s recruitment evolves, but it’s so far so good for Dan Mullen and company. Miami could be a dark horse here, as Smith has spoken highly of UM in the past.
