THE SITUATION: Mobile (Ala.) USM Wright defensive back Edwin White was committed to Tennessee from early March to earlier this week. Things changed quickly, late for the 5-foot-11, 172 pounder, and he is now set to be a Kansas Jayhawk.
IN HIS OWN WORDS: "I have chosen Kansas University, and the reason I chose Kansas was simple — the coaching staff," said White.
"Les Miles is one of the greatest coaches in college football, so you have listen to him when thinks the most of you. We have been talking since Thanksgiving break, and the whole staff was just all in on me.
"Coach Miles talked to me about Tyrann Matheui, my favorite player ever, and how he came in and played as a freshman. He talked about how Patrick Peterson did the same thing.
"I feel like coach Miles gives the best opportunity for me to get to the field early. Let’s not forget coach Dearmon. He’s from my hometown, so that made it easy as well.
"Coach Peterson showed me where I could fit in on defense as well, and that is another reason that when I talked to Kansas I felt like I could trust them and that they could take care of me.
"The last reason is I’m a competitor and I like to win and take on challenges. I want to change Kansas program around to where we can go play for a Big 12 Championship and even a national title — not just a basketball school."
RIVALS REACTION: White is a very good get for the Jayhawks. He is a recruit that started drawing attention very early in high school and was highly recruited. He is a versatile defensive back that could line up at multiple positions on the back-end of the defense. He plays with confidence, he has good ball skills he brings value to this class for Kansas.
